Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets Art Coloring Book #4 Review

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Art Coloring Book #4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This fourth and final of the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Art Coloring Books is my favorite (and it's not just because it is the only one that features Hermione on the cover - although that certainly helps). First, you have a good number of black and white illustrations featuring people and events from the film, but then you have something else - lavish color photos of most of the same scenes. The functional point of this is to let budding artists compare their own colored drawings to the actual color photos they were taken from, but I - and this will come as no real surprise - just like to look at the pictures. You can never have too many Harry Potter items, I always say, and all of these Chamber of Secrets art coloring books make for very affordable additions to my (and your) Harry Potter collection. I might just note, for all my fellow Hermione admirers out there, that our favorite character is featured prominently in two of the color photographs.

Harry Potter Movie 2002 Engagement Calendar Review

Harry Potter Movie 2002 Engagement Calendar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 9-year-old got this Engagement Calendar as a gift after seeing the movie, and he has spent hours looking at the pictures and reading the information bullets on each page. It covers all the characters, not just the headliners, and he enjoys that. There is a lot of attention to detail in the pictures and the layout of the calendar. The back cover flap wraps around and slips into an opening on the front under Harry Potter's sleeve, so it gives it a classy look, plus making it easy to carry with books and other materials.

I found this book to be a very wonderful guide to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I didn't quite understand HP3 until I read this book. Then it all clicked! I read this book, then read HP3 again, and it made so much more sense. I have loaned it to many other readers, and they all agree. It told word meanings and about the author. I suggest that any true Harry Potter fan get this guide!

Magic Words: A Dictionary Review

Magic Words: A Dictionary
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Magic Words is more than a dictionary - it is an impassioned call to writers, magicians and laypeople to bring magic back into their vocabulary. It is, in fact, an incantation calling forth the demons hidden within our speech, and no reader will finish this book without succumbing to its spell.
Let there be no doubt about it: Conley is on a mission to promote literacy, and his love of words possesses the cabbalistic reverence of an alchemist in pursuit of gold. For it is in the meaning of each word, of each letter of each word, that we discover the mysterious powers of language - or, as the author puts it, it is the inherent enchantment of the word that gives literature its magical influence. And this book will influence you in a most magical way.
Anthony Marais, author of "The Cure"

Harry Potter Collector's Value Guide (Collector's Value Guides) Review

Harry Potter Collector's Value Guide (Collector's Value Guides)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My previous review of this product was removed by Amazon after receiving 54 of 58 "helpful" votes, with the remark by the editor to me that "It is not clear from reading the review that you have read the book you commented on." I don't see how so many of Amazon's potential customers could disagree, and I assure you all that I have indeed read this "book" and that my comments below are thus informed.
To even consider that this is a "book" is misleading. It is much more of a magazine format, and although it does contain some articles, they are obviously filler for what is otherwise an advertisement for Harry Potter merchandise, of which this book is one. The articles contain nothing that is not readily available elsewhere--much of it available on the net for free. This book seeks not to inform or entertain, but to part you from your hard-earned dollars with the least amount of effort on the publishers. If the "book" were half the price or less it might be a reasonable value. But since the Collector's Value Guide is as expensive as it is, beware of the information included--obviously the "authors" have no true sense of worth.
Were this truly a Collector's Value Guide, there would be some discussion of value, and what value might actually mean when the market is flooded with cheap garbage like pieces of colored plastic that are supposed to be "magical stones" whose real purpose is to enrich their makers, not entertain children. But of course, no such discussion exists. Granted, not every Potter "collectable" is a monstrosity, but how terribly unfortunate that the real value of Harry Potter, the delight of a child, has been eclipsed by the soulless and almightly dollar. The Harry Potter phenomenon is amazing, and I'm delighted to see so many kids interested in reading, and engaged in the worlds of fantasy and imagination, but this "book" is not about that at all. Instead, the "writers" of this "book" have managed to make a "collectable" from a "book" about "collectables." Clearly the world is not the way I'd have it...

Oops-I got the coloring books mixed up; my earlier review relates more to HP and the Sorcerer's Stone coloring adventures (Friendship) with glitter glue. this one with Hagrid is much better. Nice detail in Hagrid's hut and at Gringott's bank. Also the Dursley's appear in it!! This one is a must buy.

Harry Potter the Exhibition: Official Exhibition Guide Review

Harry Potter the Exhibition: Official Exhibition Guide
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this book from the WB online store. Even though I haven't had a chance to visit the exhibition (still hoping it will make a stop in Honolulu), I wanted to have the Guide because I like the HP films.
For those who have attended the exhibit, the Guide is a nice souvenir that will bring memories of the many beautifully crafted props and costumes that have been seen in the HP films and were shown at the exhibition. The Guide follows the different sections in the exhibit like the Gryffindor Common Room, Classes at Hogwarts, Quidditch, Hagrid's Hut, Dark Forces and the Great Hall. Color pictures of costumes, creatures, and artifact displays are interspersed with quotes from the designers and a few stills from the movies.
Forty pages make for a thin booklet so some people may find the Guide somewhat overpriced. But if you liked Harry Potter Film Wizardry, you may want to consider adding the Guide to your collection. Both books will look great next to each other on your shelves.

We really liked this kit. It's one half book, with instructions on how to conduct ten different science projects. The other half is a built-in container with the supplies you'll need to do the projects that you wouldn't have around the house at home. You can do one at a time with your kids, or if you're getting into it, do a few.

Harry Potter Deluxe Stationery Review

Using this stationary is fun and I am WAY out of the intended demographic. Even grandmothers can use this handy kit, and it brings a bit of enjoyment and wizardry to our correspondence. Paper - 25 sheets!! Envelopes - 12?? Could be more, a rather awkward brown calligraphy pen, and the best of all - 32 Harry Potter stickers. I love it. Not babyish, and a bit wacky - can be used as a lap table because the kit is its own writing suface and the stickers and pen and envelopes hide with your postage stamps in a drawer - the whole thing is the size of a Harry Potter book.

"Two spellbinding scenes from Harry Potter movies spring to life in the palm of your hand," according to the publisher.
Even the most die-hard HP fan of the most tender years would find this book to be a total bore after one flip-through. Please spend your money on something else, because there is little or nothing of value here.
Add one more star if you think I'm an old curmudgeon who needs new glasses. (I am, I do, but this book still stinks.)

Sure, it could have been much bigger and included way more pictures, but the people all look like who they're supposed to be and there is enough detail to color to interest older colorers. I've seen many coloring books that have horrible likenesses. This one is fun and better than most and it's certainly cheap enough.

New Clues to Harry Potter Book 5: Hints from the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter Review

New Clues to Harry Potter Book 5: Hints from the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For those legions of Harry Potter fans, this Hint book will test your devotion to the young wizard and his friends. While Galadriel Waters Ultimate Guide deconstructed the first 4 Harry Potter books chapter by chapter and laid out the clues, hints and subplots for us to read, this hint book is just that: HINTS. The Hufflepuffs among us will be in their glory. Waters does not draw the conclusions that made the first book so popular; rather she and her co-authors plant signposts and clues for the dedicated Harry Potter Sleuth to find answers on their own. Make no mistake: this book is for those who regard reading as a full contact sport. I found myself dusting off long-unread volumes of Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, Bullfinch's Mythology and my Oxford Unabridged Dictionary. Those Harry Potter fans who want answers spoon-fed to them need NOT apply! If you enjoy digging through books, searching out history, facts and allegory and closely examining the genius of J.K. Rowling, this book is your cup of tea. I kept looking up and finding that 3 hours had suddenly zipped past me! But every time I looked up, I realized more and more how J.K. Rowling truly is the heir to the Inklings. Ms. Waters and her co-authors throw light on these supposed "kids book" and reveal them for the ageless classics they will surely become. Loved it!

HP Sleuths are clever fans who know how to ferret out the clues J.K. Rowling has hidden in her septology, fans who revel in the quest of divining what is yet to come from those concealed mysteries. HP Sleuths aren't quite ready to be told answers to the mysteries in J.K.R.'s fifth installment of the Harry Potter series -- but they do want to know if they are on the right track. This unusual book provides the hints and clues readers need to unravel these complex mysteries themselves. New Clues to Harry Potter: Book 5 is a "hints only" guide and is in a different format from our Ultimate Unofficial Guide. It includes lots of FAQs to explain some of the more complex events that occurred in Book 5. It also points HP Sleuths to the right sections so you know precisely where to look for all the mega clues we have spotted, and has a lot of big hints and tools that you need so you can start solving the mysteries. The HP Hintoscope, WWP Sleuthoscope and Rememberit Quill will all help too! But we won't be openly exposing all of the answers in this "New Clues" Guide. Includes:• Special tools to investigate the mysteries in Book 5 • New Guide of Clues to Harry Potter• Cool reference materials to keep key clues freshHP Sleuths who are ready for the answers can find them in the new Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter (Analysis of Book 5), the full analysis released by Wizarding World Press before the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in July of 2005.Get ready to pull out your memories and take a look—you'll be amazed at what there is to see!

Los Cuentos de Beedle el Bardo = The Tales of Beedle the Bard (Harry Potter) (Spanish Edition)
Average Reviews:

QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES (re: Harry Potter) Review

QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES (re: Harry Potter)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This cute little book was actually part of a pair (along with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) produced by J.K. Rowling for the charity Comic Relief. Written in a tongue in cheek manner, this books appears to be straight from the Hogwarts School Library, complete with borrow & due date list that includes one H. Potter! Purportedly written by one Kennilworthy Whisp, this book covers the evolution of Quidditch from its inception, and along the way explains how Quidditch is played.
This is a fun book for any Harry Potter fan to own. It's a good, light-hearted read, and helps explain Quidditch to us muggles, in a manner much more clear than in the regular Harry Potter books. Bet this book!
